Matthew Bonnette, a member of a prominent family of sport information directors, has been named assistant athletics director - communications at McNeese State. He is the brother of LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette and the younger son of Louis Bonnette, who is retiring after 46 years as the sports information director at McNeese. Now in his 11th year in the sports information field, Bonnette has served as associate sports information director at Northwestern State for the past nine years. Before that, the 2002 McNeese graduate was the sports information director at Henderson State.
Athletics directors – Brian Granata, who has been an assistant AD at Stevens Institute of Technology since 2005, is the new director of athletics and recreation at Arcadia.
Baseball – Bridgeport appointed Joe Tonelli, who has been on the baseball staff since 2009 and also serves as the university’s director of the Wheeler Recreation Center. He takes over for John Anqulliare, who led program for the past nine seasons.
Men’s basketball assistants – Former Kent State standout Jordan Mincy has been hired as assistant at the College of Charleston. Mincy joins the Cougars after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach under head coach Rob Senderoff at his alma mater.
Women’s basketball – Lauren Hall-Gregory is New York University’s new head coach after spending the last four seasons as an assistant at Sacred Heart.
Women’s basketball assistants – Belmont chose Brett Self as assistant Self served previously as an assistant coach at Wagner and as a graduate assistant at Auburn … Loyola Chicago added Lindsay Schrader as an assistant coach. Schrader, who was named Illinois Miss Basketball in 2005 and went on to enjoy a standout collegiate career at Notre Dame, returns to Chicago after spending last season as an assistant coach at Longwood.
Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field – Coker promoted Vic Finora to head men’s and women’s cross country coach. Finora was an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team the past two years, a post he will continue. Finora replaces Kevin Kelley, who resigned after serving as head coach since 2010 … Ed Andrewlevich has resigned for personal reasons as the head coach of the Delaware Valley men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams (indoor and outdoor) after more than a decade of service with the Aggies.
Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field assistants – Joe Frye was promoted from graduate assistant to assistant coach for men’s track and field at Belmont.
Football assistants – Holy Cross named Nick Lezynski its new secondary coach. Lezynski was a four-year walk-on member of the football team at the University of Notre Dame from 2008 to 2011, playing both quarterback and defensive back. He was an event marketing and ticketing intern for the Notre Dame athletics department afterward, as well as a marketing assistant and event sales director with the College Football Hall of Fame.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants – Kevin Hunt was hired as an assistant men’s coach at Saint Michael’s. He’s a 2012 graduate of the college and was a two-year captain on the lacrosse squad.
Men’s and women’s soccer – Wade Jean was hired as the head men’s coach at Saint Michael’s, a post he held previously in 2006 and 2007. Jean was an assistant coach at Vermont the past four seasons … St. Mary’s (Maryland) selected Richard Moller to lead the women’s program, effective July 1. Moller spent six years as the head women’s coach at Vassar.
Men’s and women’s soccer assistants – Gary Hamel was added to the men’s program at Mars Hill after spending the last four seasons as an assistant with the Oregon State men’s team.
Softball – Hardin-Simmons head coach Dan Sheppard resigned, citing personal and family reasons. Sheppard spent two seasons with the Cowgirls … Ray Vander May stepped down after 16 years as the head coach at Seton Hall.
Men’s and women’s tennis – Olivet selected Richard Halverson as head women’s coach. Halverson has been an assistant men’s and women’s coach at Michigan Tech since 2007.
Men’s and women’s volleyball – Megan Miller has been named head women’s coach at Olivet. She coached at the high school level for the last six years.
The Empire 8 appointed Janelle Feuz as its first associate commissioner, effective July 1. Feuz joins the Empire 8 after spending the last three years in the State University of New York Athletic Conference office, including two as assistant commissioner.
Communications – Molly Gallagher, who served the last two years as the advance media and communications assistant at the Atlantic 10 Conference, has been named the assistant director of athletics communications/video coordinator at La Salle. Gallagher was the new media intern at the NCAA national office for one year before joining the A-10.
Strength and conditioning – Belmont named Ryan Feek head coach of strength and conditioning. Feek, who has collegiate experience at Washington, Illinois Wesleyan, Duke, Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee State, Illinois State, and Texas A&M, was most recently on staff with the St. Louis Rams.
Former St. John’s (N.Y.) basketball player LeRoy Ellis, who turned a standout Redman career into a 14-year NBA legacy with a world championship in 1972, died on June 3, in Portland, Ore., at the age of 72 after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Georgia Southern head women’s swimming and diving coach Nathan Kellogg became the school’s all-time winningest swim coach, reaching a total of 74 dual-meet wins at the end of the 2011-12 season. The previous record was held by former Eagle swimming alum and coach Scott Farmer, who compiled 67 dual-meet wins in nine seasons at the helm. Kellogg surpassed the record in January 2012 and added six more victories to his total by season’s end.
NCAA committee vacancies
The NCAA is soliciting additional nominations for the following Sept. 1, 2012, committee vacancies. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is July 13, 2012. Nominations must be submitted online (Division II access code: membership2; Division II password: service).
The NCAA also is soliciting nominations for a July 2012 vacancy on the Division III Membership Committee – staff contact: Azure Davey. The appointee will replace Marybeth Lennox, Green Mountain College, who will resign from the committee at that time. The appointee must be a female.
