After learning at the 2011 NCAA Convention about the new national partnership between the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Special Olympics, a group of student-athletes and athletics administrators from the Colonial States Athletic Conference plunged into the Delaware River on Jan. 29 to benefit Special Olympics.
Included among those taking a dip were Neumann University tennis student-athletes Greg Bridgeman and Chris Brown; former field hockey player at Notre Dame (Maryland) and current Division III SAAC representative Jessica Maier; CSAC Assistant Commissioner Jennifer Dubow and CSAC assistant Amanda Shevchuk.
Despite the chilly weather, the CSAC student-athletes were excited to participate in the event.
“It was a fun opportunity to do something a little crazy to benefit a great cause,” Bridgeman said.
“Hopefully next year, we can get an even larger group from the CSAC to participate,” Maier said.
The eight-person CSAC team raised more than $700 for Special Olympics.
